Each year, the West Linn Lions Club (WLLC) and the Eric Egland family grant scholarships to West Linn graduating high school seniors who are continuing on with further education. Scholarships are available to students majoring in various disciplines and with various school destinations. A key component of the scholarship fundraising success has been that every dollar raised goes directly to scholarships.
WLLC scholarships have been in the range of $6,500.00 to $13,000 annually and have totaled more than $160,000 in the last 18 years to numerous West Linn recipients. We are proud of the impact our scholarships make on student education opportunities. Our primary scholarship funding mechanism has been our annual wine raffle. For details, please refer to the Events/Wine Raffle webpage.
In partnership with the WLLC, the Eric Egland scholarship remembers Eric GlenAlan Egland; a resident of West Linn for 27 years. Eric attended the University of Oregon and graduated from Portland State University with a degree in Business. He was a beloved husband of nearly 44 years, father of 4 West Linn High School graduates, and grandfather of two. Eric was a long-time member of the WLLC who unselfishly volunteered his time, talent, and treasure in many ways to positively impact the world around him. The primary scholarship funding mechanism has been through family and friend’s donations. A key component of the scholarship fundraising success has been that every dollar raised goes directly to scholarships.
West Linn resident students enrolled at West Linn High School, Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences, or Riverside High School, or home-schooled are eligible to apply. Easy-to-complete scholarship applications are available usually in April each year. Students submit applications for the category(ies) of their choice to the WLHS counselor overseeing the application process. We pare applications to a manageable level (typically 3-5) for interviews. We interview the selected applicants by a panel of 3 judges who make their selection for each category of scholarship offered. We announce winners of each scholarship category at the WLHS Evening of Excellence usually in May. WLHS delivers the scholarships directly to the winner's college or university to support their tuition.

The Club has established multiple endowments to provide a more permanent funding source for our scholarship grants. We accept tax-deductible donations through our Lions Foundation of West Linn, a 501(c)(3) certified non-profit entity. We have 4 active scholarship related endowments available for donations: the WLLC Endowment formed by the club, the Reynolds-Riverview Memorial Endowment formed by the Verie Reynolds family and ex-Riverview Lions Club members, the Egland Family Endowment formed by the Egland family, and the Adams Family Endowment formed by Ron Adams, a long-time member of the WLLC. You many donate to any of these endowments to further our ability to grant scholarships.

Every year on the Saturday before Easter we place plastic eggs filled with chocolate on the WLHS football field to the delight of community kids. There are multiple age groups with special prizes for each group. Check the calendar for times.
We provide small American flags to all 1st and/or 2nd graders in WL elementary schools who are studying the history of the flag. We also present a short history of the flag in a presentation to the students' classes. Check our calendar for the presentation times and locations throughout the school year.
We partner with multiple WLHS groups to support their fundraising efforts, including the Cheerleading, Robotics, and Dance Teams by allowing them to pre-sell Lionburgers and keep the proceeds for our burger sales. We also contribute to WLHS groups for their various activities. Check or calendar for any scheduled events.
We charter 4 WL BSA Scout troops and 1 WL Cub Pack to support their proven youth personal and leadership skill building. They in turn help us at many of our own events. It is a great collaboration between our generations.
Every Wednesday through the summer we collect approved plastics in the parking lot behind Safeway. With 1000 ibs. of plastics we receive a Trex bench for installation at community facilities. Look for our plaque on benches around town. View accepatble plastics at https://nextrex.com/view/educate. View our calendar for the schedule of collections.
We work with the WL Police Dept. and individual residents to help clean-up yards that have been neglected due to disability or inability to work in the yard, especially for seniors. If you know of someone in need of this service, contact us.
Along with the Rotary Club we maintain the City Gateway sign at the I-205 and Hiway 43 entrance to the city. We keep weeds to a minimum and help the city spread barkdust. We help the city maintain a welcoming entry to the city.
We partner with many organizations for Lionburger sales, especially WLHS clubs/teams. But most years our Lionburger sale schedule fills-up. If your organization would like to rent one of our burger wagons for an event, please contact us. We charge $100/rental and a Lion member has to oversee the transportation and setup of the wagon.
Throughout our Club history we have supported the City's Parks and Rec Dept. by constructing multiple shelters or other projects for city parks. You can see our handiwork at Willamette Park (main shelter and beer garden stage), Hammerle Park (main shelter), McLean House (gazebo), and Oppenlander (our equipment storage).
