A big thanks to all our recent donors, Lionburger customers, and new members!
Each year, the West Linn Lions Club (WLLC) and the Eric Egland family grant scholarships to West Linn graduating high school seniors who are continuing on with further education. Scholarships are available to students majoring in various disciplines and with various school destinations. A key component of the scholarship fundraising success has been that every dollar raised goes directly to scholarships.
WLLC scholarships are now $13,000 annually and have totaled more than $160,000 in the last 18 years to numerous West Linn recipients. We are proud of the impact our scholarships make on student education opportunities. Our primary scholarship funding mechanism has been our annual wine raffle. For details, please refer to the Events/Wine Raffle webpage.
West Linn resident students enrolled at West Linn High School, Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences, Riverside High School, or home-schooled are eligible to apply. Easy-to-complete scholarship applications are available usually in April each year. Students submit applications for the category(ies) of their choice to the WLHS counselor overseeing the application process. We pare applications to a manageable level (typically 3-5) for interviews. We interview the selected applicants by a panel of 3 judges who make their selection for each category of scholarship offered. We announce winners of each scholarship category at the WLHS Evening of Excellence usually in May. WLHS delivers the scholarships directly to the winner's college or university to support their tuition.

The Egland Family offers $3,000.00 to a West Linn high school senior interested in pursuing a career in Business (with a proven track record in Community Service).
In partnership with the West Linn Lions Club, this scholarship remembers Eric GlenAlan Egland; a resident of West Linn for 27 years. Eric attended the University of Oregon and graduated from Portland State University with a degree in Business. He was a beloved husband of nearly 44 years, father of 4 West Linn High School graduates, and grandfather of two. Eric was a long-time member of the West Linn Lions Club and unselfishly volunteered his time, talent, and treasure in many ways to positively impact the world around him.
The primary scholarship funding mechanism has been through family and friend’s donations. Online or cash contributions are encouraged through the Lions Foundation of West Linn (a 501(c)(3) organization) with confirmation available for tax purposes. The Egland Family has established asn endowment within the Foundation to fund scholarships. A key component of the scholarship fundraising success has been that every dollar raised goes directly to scholarships.
Received applications are reviewed for completeness. Depending on the number of applications received, the Egland Family selects finalists to be interviewed. Alongside the West Linn Lions Club interviews at WLHS, the Egland Family will interview each finalist via Zoom or in person. They will then deliberate to select a winner of this year's scholarship. Winners are announced at the WLHS Evening of Excellence along with the Club's winners.
